Stuff Christians Like Humorous Interpretation Speech- Chandler Lasch
If you’re familiar with speech and debate: This is Stuff Christians Like by Jonathan Acuff. Humorous Interpretation speech performed by Chandler Lasch at STOA’s 2011 National Invitational Tournament of Champions. Enjoy! Wondering what I’m doing? Well, if you don’t know much about speech and debate, this speech is called a Humorous Interpretation. I compete in Stoa, a Christian speech and debate league for homeschooled kids. (Yes, I am homeschooled, that’s why I make a joke about it.) Jon Acuff described this speech as a “one-person, performance art-type play.” I think that’s a pretty good description. Familiar with Stuff Christians Like? I took 5 posts from the SCL book: Being Not Funny For The Lord, Just Using God’s Favorite Word When We Pray, The Seven People You Meet In A Prayer Circle (I do five people), and Dominating the ‘Please Turn To…’ Bible Race During Church. I was allowed to cut out parts of the posts, write my own introduction, and add or change some words. Wondering about the accents? I originally did the speech without accents, but some tournament judges were upset about the “lack of characters.” I added the accents and took 2nd place at two tournaments, so I guess they liked it.
If the accents/characters seem kind of random, it’s because they are. Note: rude comments will not be approved. I am a kid doing a fun speech, and though I would appreciate helpful criticism, anything beyond that is just unnecessary. Thank you. My cousin Jordan is AMAZING!!!

Building a Windbreak to Protect Crops
This is theVOA Special English Agriculture Report, from voaspecialenglish.com | http Soil conservation methods help farmers protect their land from the damage caused by farming and the forces of nature. One method of soil conservation is the use of windbreaks. Windbreaks are barriers formed by trees and other plants. Farmers plant these barriers around their fields.Windbreaks help prevent the loss of soil. They stop the wind from blowing soil away. They also keep the wind from damaging or destroying crops.Windbreaks can be highly valuable for protecting grain crops. For example, studies have been done on windbreaks in parts of West Africa. These studies found that grain harvests were as much as twenty percent higher in fields protected by windbreaks compared to fields without them. But here is something interesting about windbreaks. They seem to work best when they allow some wind to pass through the barrier of trees or plants around a field. If not, then the movement of air close to the ground will lift the soil. Then the soil will be blown away. For this reason, a windbreak works best if it contains only sixty to eighty percent of the trees and plants that would be needed to make a solid line. An easy rule to remember is that windbreaks can protect areas up to ten times the height of the tallest trees in the windbreak. There should be at least two lines in each windbreak. One line should be large trees. The second line, right next to it, can be shorter trees or other …
